Helping the Cheff Family: Building a Ramp for a Family in Need!
At Handy Bros., we believe in using our tools and talents to bring comfort and dignity where it’s needed most. When we heard Andrea’s story, we knew this was one of those moments where the Handy Bros. Heroes needed to step in.
Andrea, the oldest of four beautiful children in the Cheff family, was born with a rare genetic disorder known as Angelman Syndrome. This condition brings with it a range of challenges—Andrea is non-verbal, walks only with assistance, experiences seizures (controlled through medication), and faces difficulties with sleep and emotional expression.
Despite these obstacles, Andrea shines. Her teachers, peers, and loved ones all describe her as a bright light in a dark world. Her happy and excited demeanor, a characteristic often associated with Angelman Syndrome, makes her an absolute joy to be around.
We were introduced to Andrea and her family through a close friend of Handy Bros.—someone who had been Andrea’s educational assistant during her elementary school years. When they shared the family’s story and current struggles, we knew we had to help.
Andrea is growing into a young woman, and until now, her parents have had to physically lift her and her wheelchair in and out of their front door every single day. Not only was this physically demanding, but it posed serious long-term challenges for both Andrea and her family.
That’s where the Handy Bros. Heroes came in.
We were honoured to support the Cheff family by making their home more accessible and comfortable, giving them the peace of mind and physical support they truly deserve. It’s families like theirs—resilient, loving, and full of light—that remind us why we do what we do.
To Andrea, and the entire Cheff family: thank you for inspiring us. And to our community—thank you for giving us the ability to give back in moments that truly matter.
