Habitat homes are built by volunteers and donors and sold to qualified families. Habitat holds the mortgage, charges no interest and amortizes the mortgage for as many years as necessary to ensure families pay no more than 30% of their income for mortgage and taxes. Habitat for Humanity Chatham-Kent does not provide free homes. The families who partner with us invest directly into their homes equity and commit 500 volunteer hours to our organization. Families purchase their home at fair market value with no down payment and pay an affordable mortgage.
